BATON ROUGE, LA (May 2, 2019) – On Sunday, May 5th at 4 p.m., Kids’ Orchestra’s 2018-2019 program year will come to an end with the 2019 Honors Spring Concert at McKinley Middle Magnet School, the finale of our Spring Neighborhood Concert Series. KO’s Honors Concert will be performed by 75 young musicians representing 16 communities across East Baton Rouge Parish. The performance is free and open to the public.

Honors Program students have gone above and beyond our weekly after-school programs by auditioning and committing extra time and dedication to learning to play an instrument. Students explore beginning ensemble playing concepts, study more challenging repertoire, receive individual training, build leadership and teamwork skills, and develop friendships.

WHEN: Sunday, May 5, 2019 at 4 p.m.

WHERE: McKinley Middle Magnet School

“A place in the Honors Program quickly becomes their goal in their first and second years of program.” says Sinella Aghasi, Kids’ Orchestra Violin Teaching Artist. “Once in Honors, they have more time with different teaching artists, allowing more extended and individualized lessons. They are prepared for two concerts annually, where most are performing for large audiences for the first time.”

Director Abby Lyons South leads the String Orchestra in Wimoweh (The Lion Sleeps Tonight) during Kids’ Orchestra 2019 Spring Honors Concert.
