October

Books & Music

Join us at any of the above dates/times to create sound effects and a musical background for a story about scary bedtime sounds. While we read The Squeaky Door (a retelling of a Puerto Rican folk song), you can play percussion instruments, sing, snore, tiptoe, squeak, and pretend to be an animal. In honor of the season, we will also dance the “Monster Mash!”

Open House

5-7pm | 647 Main Street, Baton Rouge, LA 70801

Join us for our Open House Fundraiser on October 24th from 5-7pm in celebration of Lights On Afterschool! This national event is orchestrated by the Afterschool Alliance, a nonprofit public awareness and advocacy organization working to ensure all children have access to quality afterschool programs. November

Día De Los Muertos

3-6pm | 647 Main Street, Baton Rouge, LA 70801

Come celebrate the vibrant traditions of Día De Los Muertos with us! Our second annual celebration of Hispanic community, culture, and connection offers a space to come together in honoring life and remembrance. Enjoy a day filled with rich cultural experiences including authentic Mexican food trucks, live music by KO students and staff, and artisanal vendors.

Books & Music

In November, KO instructors will offer interactive musical activities inspired by the award-winning book We Are Water Protectorsby Carole Lindstrom. Come explore the importance of water in our world by combining story, rhythm, melody, and dance. Children will learn about the water cycle, sing the “Canoe Song”, improvise with vocals and drums, and master the four movements used in Global Water Dances.
